Well the season is more than halfway complete and it’s been a remarkable 10-game run to say the least. Obviously everyone in the organization is pleased with what has been achieved thus far, but this squad has been all about the here and now since day one and the week six grind puts us up against Lost Tavern (a gritty squad we had never defeated prior to this year) and Buffalo House Ross – our arch-rivals. Hopefully taking the ice against a couple formidable opponents will get the boys amped up after they won each of their last four games by five-plus goals and pitched three 8-0 shutouts in the process. I expect to see both games end up much closer than that this week, and that’s probably a good thing with SuperBoot XXI less than two weeks away. By the way, the next Pugsguns victory will set a franchise record for wins in a single season, topping last year’s record total of 10…which is nice.
Temperatures look to be back to normal after last week’s run of sub-zero cold, so hopefully Mother Nature cooperates and enables us to play a more relaxed game on the pristine sheet. We always execute better when the ice is smooth and we’re able to unveil our pace game. Should the weather take a standard Minnesota turn the worse on us, at least we know we’re battle tested in haggard conditions. Wins against T-Bonz and Buffalo House Reaver came on blistery, snowy evenings and last Thursday’s romping of Off in the Woods took place in the middle of a blizzard on the ice. We pride ourselves in being a machine that runs in any weather, but three games on a brutal sheet is enough for one season, right?
Here’s to taking two more steps toward a repeat. Keep it simple out there, boys. Short shifts. Pucks in pucks out. I haven’t had to break a single clipboard this year -- let’s keep it that way.
